Context for how we score

5.0OUT OF 10
THE MIDDLE OF OUR SCALE

Average means average.

A 5.0 is an average experience. Anything above 5.0 is above average. A 10.0 means perfect, and that’s a score we expect to give rarely.

Reading the scale

An average meal belongs in the middle. As the food and the whole experience get better, the score climbs. There’s plenty of room to love a place without giving it a ten.

7.0A good meal is a good score. Clearly better than average. Something we enjoyed, with room to be even better.

9.0Exceptional earns the upper end. A visit that really stands out. The closer to ten, the closer it gets to our idea of perfect.

.1The little differences count. Decimals help us be more precise, but the review explains what made the meal feel that way.

WHAT GOES INTO THE NUMBER

The food comes first.

We consider the whole visit, but the food matters most. The other details help shape our final take.

OUR BIGGEST FACTOR

Food

How it tastes, how well it’s prepared, and whether we enjoyed eating it. A beautiful room is lovely, but the food is the heart of our score.

Price & value

What we got for what we paid. We consider the price, portions, and whether the experience felt worth it.

Service

The welcome, the attention, and how we were looked after throughout the visit.

Atmosphere

The comfort, setting, and overall feel of spending time there.

We each leave our own rating and review. If only one of us has reviewed a place, you’ll see that person’s score. Once both reviews are in, the restaurant’s displayed score is the average of our two ratings.

We use decimals because sometimes a whole number doesn’t quite say it. The written reviews give you the context behind the score.
